The turban has been a polemic since the day AKP stepped foot in the parliament. They stood against all other parties, defending the rights of women all over Turkey to cover their heads in public places, universities and government buildings. They trampled all over the laws that Ataturk built the Turkish Republic with, hiding behind human rights and even suing the country when they didn’t get the results that they wanted. Women started wearing Turbans more and more, covering themselves from head to toe, claiming that it’s not a political statement but a religious one. We could say that this issue literally tore the country in two.
One could say that we nearly believed them.
Erdogan was in Spain a couple of days ago and when asked about the head scarf issue, he made the single mistake that brought down all the efforts of all those women who tried to conn us into thinking that their religious statements were not fueled by politics.
Erdogan finally admitted that the head scarf was a political symbol used by their party.
How are they going to deny any further that their political agenda is to turn this country into a backwards thinking religious empire?
People are slowly seeing through their veil of dishonesty and asking the right questions. Thankfully, with his eternal arrogance and confidence, Erdogan seems to be finally telling the truth. Now maybe someone will do something about them?
